What Do You See?
The Power of Visualization
by Kathleen Edelstein
When you walk in your home or office every day, what do you see? Do you see clutter? Do you see unending work? Do you see disarray? More importantly, how does that make you feel...anxious, worried, or maybe overwhelmed? I cannot begin to tell you how many people use these words when describing their office or worse yet, their house. (NOTE: I didn’t say home because at this point, their house only feels like a house, not a home.)
A key element to getting your home or office the way you want it is to see it.You can see it in your mind, in your words and in your actions. Start with making a descriptive list of how you envision it to be. How you truly want it to look and again, more importantly, feel. Go into as much detail as you possibly can in describing it such as the color of the walls, the softness of the sofa, the smell in the air, the joy that comes over you when you enter. Take the time to actually write it down and know that you have not hit the mark until it starts to affect you as you are writing it.
After you have thoroughly written down your vision of your space, review it and put it in present tense as if you have already achieved it. So for example, if you had written “I want my bedroom to feel like a sanctuary.” You would change it to “My bedroom feels like a sanctuary.” It then becomes your affirmations.
Refer to your affirmations often and keep them in a prominent location. Each day read all or at least a few of them and use the affirmations to calm yourself and to realize your dreams. It can become your mantra of sorts.
Having this visualization not only in your mind, but also putting it onto paper will allow you to reference it and “redecorate” whenever you feel appropriate to get it to be exactly as you want it. You are not locked into this particular vision or list of affirmations. You can change them at any time to make them better fit your changing life.
Give it a try. You will be shocked at how writing something down and reaffirming it can bring you peace and happiness and even helps you to bring it into existence.
