SuperGirl Workout Summer Tips by Lynn DeVasto, Certified Personal Trainer, AAAI/ISMA
Summer is only 7 weeks away! Are you ready? I used to hate summer, and I hated summer because I wanted to cover up and hide my body. Now, I love summer! I love the warmth on my skin and the things that I just can’t do in the winter. Little joys like pedicures, the evening breeze when all the windows are open, being able to drive an hour and stick my feet in the sand. Even, or most especially, being able to walk out my front door to my local park and go for a 20 minute walk without having to bundle up for 20 minutes beforehand!
Sometimes, people think that it takes too much time, energy, money to get fit or lose weight. So today, let’s talk about small steps for the month of May. Please note: I am not talking about perfection or losing 10 pounds in 10 days. I am talking about making livable changes that will stick with you over time. THAT is really how you lose weight and keep it off. It does our bodies or our minds no good to lose weight quickly that we can’t maintain.
- Incorporate a little bit of weight training. An easy way to begin is to do it on commercial breaks. In a half hour show, you can fit in 10 minutes! If you don’t have any weights, resistance bands are relatively inexpensive, and you can do a LOT with them! If you don’t even want to go there, use your body’s own resistance and do some squats, crunches and push ups. There are ways to modify all of these to your fitness level.
- Put yourself first! This means: set aside some time where nobody can bother you. This can be hard sometimes, especially for those who (dare I say?), put everybody ahead of themselves. Give yourself 10 minutes of peace and quiet, this time will come back to you tenfold. Just do whatever makes you happy...exercise, meditation, flower arranging, reading. Please... avoid the phone and computer and re-connect with the wonderful person you are.
- Look at the reasons behind what you are craving. For instance, if you crave something sweet and/or creamy, you are probably looking for comfort and love. If you are craving salty and crunchy, you may be looking for a way to release frustration or anger. While I don’t have the answers (I wish) as to how to deal with these feelings in such a forum, for now, it is enough to simply be aware of how you are feeling. Change will stem from awareness, I promise.
Next month, I will have videos on how to properly do some of the best body resistance exercises. In the meantime, if you have any questions, feel free to email me, I will be happy to guide you through the proper form and set up. For now, enjoy the beautiful weather and enjoy your life!
After losing 90 pounds and successfully maintaining that loss for over 2 years, Lynn DeVasto decided get certified as a Personal Trainer to help other women. She understands on a deep level, how difficult it can be both emotionally and physically, to take those initial steps to a healthy life.
This has led her to open her own Personal Training business, SuperGirl Workout, where she works exclusively with women in their homes.
