Independence Day
Divorce Could Be Just That
by Kay Larrabee, The Divorce Concierge

balloonThe Fourth of July is a festive holiday-with picnics, fireworks and family gatherings, but what we should remember is that our country’s independence was only achieved through the bravery and dedication of those who stood up to the status quo and were willing to fight for what they believed was an inherent right of mankind.

Do you deserve independence? Happiness? The freedom from abuse, whether it is physical or emotional? Do you deserve to live your life the way you want to? Of course you do. And while the end of a marriage can be difficult, it can also lead to all of these things.

The real Independence Day seems to come for most women on the day that their divorce becomes final. Yes, it is scary- you are truly on your own-no spouse to lean on; However, there is something about the finalization-the end if you will- of your marriage that is liberating.

The process of divorce can be long, drawn out, emotionally painful and financially devastating. Many women find it impossible to move on with their lives while they are still dealing with this. I know for myself, and many others, it was like a switch turned on the day my divorce was final, and I felt free to move on with my life, after being on hold while the divorce dragged on.

So, please do not be afraid. Going solo can be liberating and fun. You will have no one to answer to but yourself. No one you must cater to except yourself. And no one you have to compromise with-except yourself, if you choose. So go out and get that facial, sing karaoke, take ballroom dancing lessons, jump out of an airplane, travel, paint, sing, live and love.
